Kurt Oelschlagel
Kurt Oelschlagel (March 22, 1941 – August 8, 2010) ~ passed away peacefully at Walkerton Hospital on Sunday, August 8, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

Beloved husband and best friend to Christel (Blume) Oelschlagel whom he married on November 5, 1960.

Left with fond and loving memories are his children, Richard Oelschlagel and his wife Richenda of Hanover, Kurt Oelschlagel and his wife Heather of Hanover, Robert Oelschlagel and his wife Tracy of Harriston, Barbara Christensen and her husband Gordon of Clifford, and Mark Oelschlagel and his wife Janice of Elora.

Caring Opa to 11 grandchildren, Erica, Andrea, Stephanie Plume and her husband Kevin, Jessica, Jennifer, Nicole, Kristen, Matthew, Nathan, Owen and Allie.

Kurt is predeceased by his Mother Freida, and Father Richard, by his sister Liesel and by his brother-in-law Walter Fischer.

Survived by his brothers Egon Oelschlagel and his wife Barbel of Germany and Richard Oelschlagel and his wife Ingrid of Germany, by his sister-in-law Elke Fischer of Kelowna, BC and brother-in-law Werner Blume and his wife Zorka.

Facts like these don’t capture the kind of man, husband, father and Opa he was. Kurt was selfless and generous to a fault to those he loved. His sense of humour was a part of him to the end. Kurt was a dedicated business owner of Harriston Packing Company in the Harriston community for 44 years. He emigrated from Germany at the age of 18 with an entrepreneurial spirit to start his own venture. His strong work ethic, selflessness and ability to make his grand kids smile with his funny faces will always be cherished.

Friends may call at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Clifford on Thursday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m.

Interment in Harriston Cemetery, with a celebration of Kurt’s life to follow at the Harriston Legion.

Memorial donations to Myeloma Canada (www.myelomacanada.ca) would be appreciated.

The Oelschlagel family would like to thank the nurses of the dialysis unit at the Hanover & District Hospital and the nurses of Unit 2 at the SBGHC (Walkerton) for their care and friendship.
