Our History

Our History

Built in 1876, the building located at 44 John St. S., Harriston has taken on a variety of roles in the community.
At various times a private home, birthing hospital, and home to Member of Parliament W.C. (William) Chambers, the property was purchased by Fred W. Hardy in 1947 and converted to the Hardy Funeral Home. Fred Hardy, and later his son Robert Hardy made several changes to the building, most notably in 1966 and 1979 when the building was expanded, and rooms added.

The business was purchased by Allan and Pat Lee in 1984, and renamed the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home.

In 1999 Allan and Pat renovated the entire funeral home, knocking out walls, and changing the appearance of the entire business. Now a facility that the community could be truly proud of, the new look of the funeral home offered a larger foyer, expanded chapel to seat 175-200 comfortably, main floor office with a gas fireplace overlooking the professionally manicured landscaping, and functional reception facilities.
